Students from VTI Bruges Assist Monument Vandekerckhove in the Restoration of Fort Napoleon
Just like last year, the 7th-year students in Restoration Construction are getting the chance to experience the trade and life on the work floor. It’s a unique opportunity for both sides, and possibly the beginning of a long-term collaboration. This way, we aim to prepare graduating students for a future in the construction sector.
Last year, this partnership began with the restoration of the Belfry in Bruges together with the 7th-year Restoration students. After that successful experience, we’re joining forces again — this time at Fort Napoleon in Ostend.
This site perfectly reflects Group Monument’s motto: “Restoring the Glory.” The exterior walls are being restored (brickwork and repointing) and finished with a softcapping — a protective layer of drought-resistant grasses. In addition, repair works are being carried out on the roof covering, and improvements are made to both safety and accessibility.
By working together, we hope to make construction education (VTI Bruges) and future careers in construction (with Monument Vandekerckhove and other Group Monument companies) more appealing once again.
